SEC BASEBALL STOCK EXCHANGE WEEK 2

The Southeastern Conference continued league baseball play over the weekend with less surprising results than last week. Here is a look at the SEC Stock Exchange for Week 2.

STOCK PRICE HIGH

ARKANSAS- The Razorbacks had another good week pulling off a 2-1 series win at upstart Missouri. The Hog pitching crew, led by Trevor Stephan (50 Ks), is getting the job done with a league leading 260 strikeouts.

SOUTH CAROLINA- The Gamecocks took care of business at home, notching a series win over Alabama. However, USC get the award for easiest SEC schedule so far. That will change later with visits to LSU and Florida on the horizon.

KENTUCKY- The Wildcats continue to show that they mean business. UK fell 9-6 in game 1 against Ole Miss but then pulled out two straight wins to win the series. UK is leading the league in both batting average (.326) and hits with 275.

LSU- The Tigers lost Friday (1-0) and Saturday (8-1) games at Florida rallied to a 10-6 win on Sunday to maintain a winning league record.

AUBURN- The Tigers got the job done at rival Georgia coming away with a 2-1 series victory. When you look at the stats, Auburn's success is kind of a head scratcher. The are really not wonderful at anything yet they also aren't terrible in any category except home runs where they rank 14th with just eight. This is just a solid club that plays team ball and not 'me' ball.

MISSOURI- Mizzou nearly fell into the so-so category (renamed) due to a 2-1 series loss at home to a tough Arkansas team. Trailing 9-3 in the eighth inning on Sunday, the Tigers nearly rallied to win before running out of outs and losing 9-8.

STOCK PRICE SO-SO

VANDERBILT- Vandy won 2 of 3 at home against struggling Texas A&M. The Commodores put on a home run derby on Saturday with four of those in a 17-3 victory over Aggies. Vandy will head to Lexington this weekend with an opportunity to move into the stock price 'high' category.

MISSISSIPPI STATE- State swept Tennessee in Starkville (as 14powers predicted) and now has reached .500 in league play. State gets a tough test this coming weekend when they travel to Oxford to face rival Ole Miss.

OLE MISS- The Rebs gave an improved Kentucky team a tough battle in Lexington but ended up losing that series 2-1. Ole Miss has opened league play against two solid opponents. They probably should be in the stock price 'high' section.

FLORIDA- Florida, after that shocking series loss at Auburn last week, pulled off a 2-1 series victory at home against LSU. The Gators are just 2-4 in the league but you have to figure that they were ambushed by a much improved AU team but then got the job done against the Tigers. They will win many games this season because of their solid pitching.

STOCK PRICE LOW

TEXAS A&M- The Aggies lost five straight league games to start conference but were able to eek out a 6-4 victory at Vandy on Sunday. It's a start. They go to LSU for a Thursday through Saturday series this weekend.

ALABAMA- The Crimson Tide got into the SEC win column with a solid 4-2 win at South Carolina on Friday night. The Tide host a tough Arkansas squad this weekend.

GEORGIA- The Bulldogs dropped a close 2-1 series at home to Auburn. The Dawgs lost Friday's game in a 2-1 heartbreaker. This weekend the Vols and UGA have a chance to pick up some wins.

TENNESSEE- UT has had the misfortune of playing against two quality opponents to start conference play. They really need their pitching staff to step it up a notch. A home series with Georgia should get them into the win column.
